Dog License

The Town of Rockland has launched a new Dog Licensing program.

New applications and renewals of existing dog licenses will be done online through this program.

To register a new dog, please click here to submit a new application.

If you are renewing your dog license(s) from the previous year, please click here to look up your record(s).

PLEASE NOTE:  "Service Animal" is defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.  Emotional support dogs are not included in this definition.  For more information, please see https://www.ada.gov/topics/service_animals.

Dogs licenses are required to be obtained under M.G.L.c.140 by an owner or keeper of a dog.   Dog licenses will become available in January at the Rockland Town Clerk’s Office. The registration period is January 1st through March 31st.

Items to Bring With You

In order to license your dog(s), you will need to provide the following:

1. A copy of a valid rabies certificate and certificate of spaying/neutering.
2. $10 per dog if your dog has not been spayed or neutered.
3. $7 per dog for a spayed or neutered dog.

Dog Licensing Reminders

A reminder to license your dog is sent with the annual census in January.  This acts as notification of reminder for renewals for currently registered dogs.  Please note that NO other renewal notification will be mailed.  Residents may complete the form and submit payment through the mail or in person c/o Town Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday.

All dogs must be registered by March 31st. Dog licenses not renewed by May 1st are subject to a $25 late fee.  The late fees shall be in addition to the license fee referenced above.  All unlicensed dog information, after May 1st, will be forwarded to the Animal Control Officer.

Please Note:  If your dog has moved or is deceased, could you please alert the Town Clerk's office by calling 781-871-1874 x1002 or email clerkdept@rockland-ma.gov with your name and address.

Rockland Residents may only license 4 dogs per household.  A Kennel License is required for more than 4 dogs.  Kennel License can be obtained thru the Zoning Board of Appeals.
